Aadi Amavasya - The Ancestral Blessing

Amavasya and Pitra tharpanam The ' no moon ' or ' new moon ' day is referred to amavasya. When amavasya falls in the month of Aadi it is Aadi Amavasya . This month aadi amavasya falls on 23rd July. In the month of  Aadi the planet sun is in the Kataka raasi or zodiac sign of Cancer. Moon is the lord of the Kataka raasi . Amavasai   is the day when the Sun and the Moon rise and fall at the same time. Aadi month is the fourth month in the Tamil calendar and this year aadi month its between July 17th to August 16th 2017. As amavasya falls on 23rd in the aadi month, it is normally referred as Aadi amavasya .  Aadi amavasya is believed to be a day to connect to the departed souls of ancestors and seek their blessings. Spiritual Importance of Sankatahara Chaturthi

ॐ Om Shri Ganeshaya Namah  Dedicated to Lord Ganesha is an auspicious day of Sankatahara Chaturthi. This month it falls on Wednesday the July 12. This day is observed in every lunar month of the Hindu calendar on the fourth day of Krishna Paksha (dark lunar phase or the waning phase). Fasting is an integral part of this day and Lord Ganesha devotees break this fast only upon having the auspicious sight of the moon preceded by prayers to Ganesha. On this day devotees rise up early to offer prayers and worship the Lord. Lord Ganesh is known to remove any obstacles or hardships that one may face in their life. By offering prayers and worshipping Ganesha with Dhruva grass is meant to spiritually elevate the devotee.  Food offerings like banana, milk,  kozhukattai made from coconut or Sundall are served as prasadams.
